Legacy

Spielraum Kollektiv (Czech republic)

Intergenerational dialoge over the coffin.

Monday 20. 11. 2023
20:00
Small auditorium

Tickets available via Archa Theatre and GoOut.cz

My grandmother is 1930. If I staged her funeral, the family would probably kill me. You don't talk about death until it comes. And preferably not even then. So I prefer to stage my own funeral. The roles are cast. The coffin is mine. You are the guests.

A subjective confrontation between members of two distant generations of the same family. A documentary theatre project about the legacy we leave for future generations. The main inspiration is Linda Straub's ninety-two year old grandmother, her views and memories. Housewife, daughter of a communist, neighbour of Karel Gott, boss, war veteran, immigrant or heart of the family? What to remember? Linda Straub's intergenerational dialogue with her grandmother.

Grandma can't be a part of the show. Spielraum Kollektiv therefore experiments with the possibilities of working with audiovisual recordings, through which the grandmother almost acts despite her absence on stage.

The theme is the waiting for death and what is left behind. Never before in the entire known history of mankind has it happened that such different generations with different interests and outlooks on life have lived in the same period. The rapid progress of the times and the constant changes to which all generations are exposed on a daily basis cause mutual misunderstanding. The importance of the common person as a response to the contemporary search for the meaning of existence, the contribution of the individual. On the borderline between desire and the absurd effort to understand what is no longer and what will be.
